Farmers Market

Today we went to the Farmer’s Market in Dallas. I love going to this place and tasting the wonderful fruits. I bought some squash and zucchini for a casserole I am making tonight for the family. This was Brooke’s first trip there and I am excited to take her again. Maybe the next time she can try the fruit too!!!

Picket Fence

Brandon and I stayed up last night till 11:45 building this fence for our garden. I think it turned out very nice. I just think little picket fences are so cute. We plan on staining it or painting it white, so when that happens I will post a new picture. We built this to keep our dogs out, so they will not eat our produce. I also just wanted it for decoration purposes, to make our garden cute!!

Ready to grow

Well tonight was a long night of building, shoveling, pouring and mixing. Our boxes are completely full now with soil and compost(hooray)! Brandon built one more small box to fit all the veggies I had bought. The things we planted were: lettuce, carrots, green beans, sugar snap peas, broccoli, banana peppers, tomatoes, bell peppers and jalapenos. I hope they grow and are yummy to the tummy!!!

Dirt

Well…instead of going and buying soil from a local garden shop by the scoop I found this AWESOME place in Terrell that is so much cheaper. We had to buy a minimum of 6 yards which was fine because we are sharing the load with Kyle and Liz. They delivered it for us too!!!! So when they delivered it, I was itching to start shoveling and get my garden started. We had to wait a few hours though before doing this because we went to Allison’s last choir concert. So when we got home Liz and Kyle came over and the “dirt” party began!!! We filled our 2 boxes and still have a lot of soil left over so Brandon is going to build one more garden box and then spread the remaining dirt on our front yard. Tomorrow we will go buy some compost and mix it in with the sandy loam and then my planting will begin!!! YEAH!!

Garden

For months now Brandon and I have been debating whether or not to build raised beds in our backyard for a vegetable/fruit garden. My best friend Liz and her husband Kyle have several in their backyard and they are really neat. Every time we go over there it just made me want some in our backyard more and more. So this weekend being a holiday weekend and more days off from work, Brandon and I decided to build raised beds in our back yard for our own garden. I am so excited. Brandon completed one box on Sunday and then part of another one on Monday. Today I plan on going to get some dirt to fill our boxes and plant our seeds and veggie plants. The thing we plan on growing are: carrots, green beans, sugar snap peas, tomatoes, squash, jalapenos, banana peppers, bell peppers and broccoli. I will post pictures of our garden soon. Can’t wait for the vegetables to begin growing!!! It will be fun to eat our own produce!!!!
